I found this picture on my camera today. It's from a very satisfying meal I had at L&L Hawaiian Barbeque in Pasadena last week. Underneath those shortribs is grilled chicken and beef; the macaroni salad on the top right was the creamiest I've ever had, and pleasantly untangy, which makes me wonder what kind of mayo they use. The highlight of the meal was when the cashier - a 16 y.o Hawaiian-looking dude - gave us an impromptu serenade on his ukulele.
Of course, one of the oft-remarked upon downsides of the "convenience" of Google is that I don't feel comfortable saying, e.g., isn't Hawaiian food strange? They have that spam stuff, and macaroni salad alongside japanese food -- where'd they get that crap? I feel like I have to find the name of the spam dishes now, and figure out where that and the macaroni salad came from, and while I'm at it, figure out what poi is and how poi is made.
