One of the few thigns that I remember from Prof. Kuperberg's intro econ class was his assertion that the key to happiness was cultivating cheap tastes. There's a familiar criticism of the economic model of rationality in that comment, but as far as food goes, I think it's probably pretty unobjectionable - which means I should be cultivating my fancy for the amazing $.49 McDonald's soft-serve rather than the $3.35 Synergy Kombucha -- both of which, in Bentham's sense, are as
pure as gustatory pleasures get (unlike, say, the In n' Out Double-Double).
