Troglodytes troglodytes

'Troglodyte', translated literally, means "one who enters a hole" (thus, its association with cavemen). But I learned yesterday that it's also the scientific classification for wrens, and that the Winter Wren over to the left is also known as Troglodytes troglodytes.

The photo is from Eliot Porter, currently the subject of an exhibition at the Getty. His bird prints, which were processed using a customized dye transfer process, have a cool, painting-like quality.

Are you familiar with the Jimmy Castor Bunch song, "Troglodyte"? If not, you should get familiar with it, ASAP.
